Norway Rat (common rat)

​

Course Red Brown in colour. Heavy set body with a blunt nose and small finely haired ears. Tail is shorter than the body and head and is pale underneath.

Weight – 450g

HABITS:

​

Burrows, swims well and occurs in sewers. Lives outside and inside and nests in various places

FOOD:

Garbage, meat, cereals and fish

VISIBLE FEATURES:

 

Fine grey, black, brown in colour. May be white underneath. Slender body
with a pointed nose and large almost hairless ears. Tail is longer than the body and head and is uniform in colour.

HABITS:

Does not burrow. Climbs well. Poor swimmer. Rare in sewers but often found in high places

FOOD:

Vegetables, fruit, cereals and grains

Fine Brown to grey in colour. Slender body with large hairy ears and tail about the same length as head and body. Tail is partly naked.
